Three Architects Discuss Context

24 July 2013 at 7pm

A panel discussion with Kapil Gupta, Bijoy Jain, and Aaron Schwarz

At Studio Mumbai, 561/63 N.M. Joshi Marg, Byculla West

Come hear three architects talk about contemporary design and building that result from a deepened consideration of context--architecture that takes its cues from the climate, history, social culture, available materials, local building practices, and other factors of new projects, whether here in India or in their work abroad. In connection with the exhibition currently on view, this panel discussion will encompass the architects' diverse experiences and sensitivities to the local conditions of their projects.

Kapil Gupta graduated with Honours from Sir JJ School of Architecture, Mumbai in 1996 followed by post-graduate studies at the Architectural Association School of Architecture London between 1996 and 1998.  Together with Christopher Lee he founded Serie Architects in 2006.

Bijoy Jain received his Masters of Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis in 1990.  He worked in Los Angeles and London through 1995. He returned to India in 1995 and founded Studio Mumbai.

Aaron Schwarz received his Bachelors of Architecture from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, in 1980. He is an executive director and principal of the New York City based design firm, Perkins Eastman, and is managing director of the firm’s design operations in South Asia.

This event is organized by Mumbai Art Room and Studio Mumbai.
